Stuck? Tell the person who built it.
Questions, bugs and feature ideas come straight to me, not to a ticket bot. Check the quick answers first. If those don't cover it, send the form below and I'll reply by email.
Quick answers
The things people ask most in the first week.
I don't see the Suggestions tab
Check Client notes > Settings > Show the tab to. The default is "Only people who open the review link", so the tab stays hidden until you open a review link once in that browser. Also check the page isn't listed under "Skip these pages", and clear any page cache after changing settings.
My client says the review code doesn't work
Codes aren't case sensitive, and spaces or dashes don't matter, but the code must still be active. In Client notes > Settings > Review codes, check it isn't revoked, or copy a fresh review link and send it again. Ten wrong tries in an hour lock that visitor out until the hour is up.
I'm not getting email alerts
Finishcoat sends through your site's normal WordPress mail. In Client notes > Settings, press Send test email. If the test doesn't arrive, your host isn't delivering mail from WordPress, and an SMTP plugin usually fixes it.
A photo upload fails
Photos must be JPEG, PNG or WebP, no bigger than "Largest photo (MB)" in Settings. Your server's own upload limit also applies, and Settings shows it next to that field. The lower of the two wins.
Notes went to the wrong page
Each note belongs to the page address it was left on. If you moved or renamed a page, old notes stay with the old address. They're all still in Client notes in wp-admin.
How do I remove it when the job is done?
Deactivate and delete it like any plugin. Notes and photos stay unless you tick "Delete all notes and photos when the plugin is deleted" in Settings first.
If something is broken, send your site info
It tells me your WordPress, PHP and theme versions and which plugins are running, so I can usually spot the problem without a back and forth. It doesn't include passwords.
- In wp-admin, go to Tools > Site Health and open the Info tab.
- Click Copy site info to clipboard.
- Paste it into the Site info box in the form below, along with any error message you saw.
Ask for help
I read every request myself and usually reply within two business days.
For questions other builders can learn from too, the WordPress.org forum works just as well.
Or email finishcoat@wilderlabs.studio.
